Frances Elisabeth Wesley was born in 1850 at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.1 She was the daughter of William Wesley and Frances Hannah Wayte.1

She was recorded as living with her parents, two unmarried aunts, two servants and older siblings John, Edmund and William in the 1851 census at High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. She was recorded as being just 1 years old.1

Her mother died circa December 1860 at the approximate age of 39 years. After the death of their mother, William Wesley remained with his two eldest sons in London, whilst the three youngest children were sent home to Derbyshire with his wife's sister Emma..2

She was recorded as living with her aunt Emma, a servant and two young brothers in the 1861 census at Bulls Head, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. She was recorded as being 11 years old.2 She was a scholar.2
