James McKenzie William Fooks was born circa 1839 at Weymouth, Dorset.1 He was the son of William Samuel Fooks and Maria Jane Richardson.1 James McKenzie William Fooks was baptised on Sunday, 8 December 1839 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.2 He emmigrated from London on 5 July 1840 on the 'Waterloo' with her parents and three older siblings, her grandmother, along with other members of her father's family.3,4,5 After a voyage of about 5 months John arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia, on 9 November 1840 with his family.4,6,5



James McKenzie William Fooks married Sarah Langley on Saturday, 2 July 1870 at Port Wallaroo, South Australia.7 James McKenzie William Fooks was a contractor circa 1880.2

James died on 17 June 1886 at Albert Street, in Port Melbourne, He died of a wound to the head and tetanus.1 His body was interred at Melbourne General Cemetery on 20 June 1886 at the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.2
