Herbert Claude Oaten was born circa 1892 at New Zealand.1,2 He was the son of Claude Herbert Oaten and Isabel Eyre.1,2

Before his marriage, Herbert worked putting the engines in the TSS Earnslaw in Queenstown - or so the family story has it. He is apparently in a large group photograph of the time. He oversaw the bringing of electricity to the town of Cambridge, in the Waikato.1

Herbert Claude Oaten married Edith Russell circa 1915.1 Herbert Claude Oaten was an electrical engineer circa 1920.1 Herbert lived circa 1920 at Auckland, New Zealand.1

Herbert died circa 1959 at New Zealand.1
