Elizabeth Alexandrina Nicholson was born on 10 March 1859 at West Kirby, Cheshire.2,3 She was the daughter of Alexander Nicholson and Elizabeth Jones.1
She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings Edward, Owen, Margaret, Ernest and Magnus in the 1871 census at Llynclys Bridge, Llynclys, Shropshire. She was recorded as being 12 years old.2 Her occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.2 Her common name was Lizzie.2
