Emma Sophia Wayte was born on 24 September 1829 at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.2 She was the daughter of Thomas Wayte and Hannah Sharpe. Emma Sophia Wayte was baptised at Independent Church on Sunday, 13 December 1829 at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.2

She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings Mary, Edward and Maria in the 1841 census at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.3

She was recorded as living with her older sister Frances and her husband William Wesley and the four Wesley children, her sister Frances, and two servants in the 1851 census at High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. She was recorded as being 21 years old.1 Emma Sophia Wayte was a governess; she may have been helping with the younger Wesley children.1 After the death of their mother, William Wesley remained with his two eldest sons in London, whilst the three youngest children were sent home to Derbyshire with his wife's sister Emma.4

She was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census at Bulls Head, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. She was 31 years old. Also living in the house were three of her dead sister's children aged 11 to 2, and a servant.4 She was an English teacher.4

Emma Sophia Wayte married Alfred Chabot circa September 1865.5

Emma Sophia Wayte was recorded as the spouse of Alfred Chabot in the 1871 census at 38 Benfield Road, Lambeth, London. She was recorded as being 41 years old. Also living in the house were two of her nephews and a servant.5

Emma Sophia Wayte was recorded as the spouse of Alfred Chabot in the 1881 census at Knoll Road, Dorking, Surrey. She was recorded as being 51 years old.6

Emma Sophia Wayte was recorded as the spouse of Alfred Chabot in the 1891 census at Dorking, Surrey. She was recorded as being 61 years old.. Also living in the house were her two nephews, a cousin and 5 servants.7

Emma Sophia Wayte was recorded as the spouse of Alfred Chabot in the 1901 census at Dorking, Surrey. She was recorded as being 71 years old.. Also recorded as living in the house was her nephew and two servants.8 They was listed as a beneficiary in her husband Alfred Chabot's will on 30 May 1908.9

She was recorded as head of household in the 1911 census at 'Viewlands' Knoll Road, Dorking, Surrey. She was 81 years old. The house had 12 rooms.10 Emma Sophia Wayte was a woman of 'private means.10'

Emma died on 23 April 1921 at Surrey at age 91.11

Emma's will was probated on 4 July 1921. The estate was valued at £39,436 15s. 1d..11
