Mary Elizabeth Wayte was born circa 1823 at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.1 She was the daughter of Thomas Wayte and Hannah Sharpe. Mary Elizabeth Wayte was baptised on Wednesday, 18 June 1823 at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.1

She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings Edward, Emma and Maria in the 1841 census at Ashby-de-la Zouch, Leicestershire.2

She was recorded as living with her older sister Frances and her husband William Wesley and the four Wesley children, her sister Emma, and two servants in the 1851 census at High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. She was recorded as being 26 years old.3 Mary Elizabeth Wayte was a 'British school teacher'; she may have been home schooling the Wesley children.3
