James McGlashan was born on 30 January 1825 at Gargunock, Stirling.1 He was the son of Duncan McGlashan and Christian Brown.1 He lived with his mother at Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire, in 1841.2 James McGlashan was a carter in 1841.2

James McGlashan married Sarah Campbell in December 1850 at New Monkland, Lanarkshire.3

"Sometime between 1854 and 1856 James went to Ireland, perhaps to visit his brother Charles but more likely to work with him in mining or iron smelting, activities that Charles was occupied with in that time period."4

James McGlashan married Agnes Paterson on Friday, 15 August 1856 at Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire.3 James McGlashan was a fireman in a paper mill factory circa 1871.3

James died on 29 August 1895 at Rutherglen, Glasgow, at age 70.3
