Thomas Richard Darby was born on 25 March 1833 at Greenwich, London.2,1 He was the son of James Darby and Elizabeth Brambel.1 Thomas Richard Darby was baptised at St. Alphege on Sunday, 21 April 1833 at Greenwich, London.1

He was recorded as living with his parents and older sister Adelaide in the 1841 census at Plumbridge Street, Greenwich, London. He was recorded as being 8 years old.3

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census at 12 Vine Street, Westminster, London. He was 18 years old.2 His occupation was recorded as being a tallow chandler's clerk in the census.2 Thomas lived in December 1854 at Lisson Street, Marylebone, London.4 He was a clerk in December 1854.4

Thomas Richard Darby married Ann Mutton, daughter of William Mutton, at Christ Church on Monday, 25 December 1854 at Marylebone, London.4
