Ernest Samuel Fooks was born on 21 March 1862 at Perth, Tasmania.2,1 He was the son of Rev. Samuel Berjew Fookes and Louisa Jean Hobkirk.1 Ernest Samuel Fooks was baptised on Thursday, 29 May 1862 at Perth, Tasmania.3

It was reported in the papers on Friday, 19 November 1875 that one of Rev. Samuel Berjew Fookes's sons "E. Fookes" was hit in the eye at Richmond, Tasmania, with a piece of thrown china, and was likely to lose his sight.4

He attended James Sutherland Babbington and his sister. Grace Fookes's wedding in a Church of England cermony at St. David's Mission Church Campbell Street. His father officiated at the wedding on Wednesday, 12 August 1885 at Hobart. This was the first marriage to ever take place in this church. As was the tradition, she was presented with a bible by the churchwardens. James and Grace went on to have three children together.5,6,7,1

Ernest likely died on 9 August 1920 at 'Carinya', in Claremont, Tasmania, at age 58.3 His body was interred at Cornelian Bay Cemetery on 21 August 1920 at Cornelian Bay, Tasmania.3
