Alex J. Lamont was born circa January 1850 at Tranmere, Cheshire.1 He was the son of Charles Lamont and Christian Gibb.1
He was recorded as living with his parents, his cousin, his uncle and a visitor in the 1851 census at Church Terrace, Tranmere, Cheshire. He was recorded as being just 14 months old.1 In April 1861, his name was recorded as 'Alexander.2'
He was recorded as living with his parents, a lodger and sibling Mary in the 1861 census at St. Helen's Road, Sutton, Lancashire. He was recorded as being 11 years old.2 Alex J. Lamont was a scholar on 8 April 1861.2
He was recorded as living with his parents and siblings Mary, Euphemia and John in the 1871 census at 4a Church Terrace, Tranmere, Cheshire. He was recorded as being 21 years old.3 His occupation was recorded as being a clerk in a commercial merchant's office (perhaps with his father). in the census.3
