Charles Townshend Hargrave was born on 25 December 1825 at Ballynoe house, Queenstown, Cork.1 He was the son of Abraham Hargrave and Sarah Deane.1

Charles Townshend Hargrave he was educated at Liege College, Liege, Belgium, at Liege.2 He was an architect.3

He qualified as a county surveyor in 1851.2

He sailed with four of his brothers in a yacht from Cork to Australia in 1853.2

Charles Townshend Hargrave married Jessie Morton at Trinity Church on Saturday, 29 April 1854 at Adelaide.2

He designed the Custom House at Cork.3

In 1861 he was appointed as Engineer Southern Division of the Central Board of Main Roads.2 Charles Townshend Hargrave was Superintending Surveyor for North-West District in 1869.2 He was Inspector-General and Engineer for Roads and Bridges.2

Charles may have died in 1905 at Queenstown, South Australia.1

Charles may have died on 17 May 1905 at Melbourne at age 79.2
