Alexander Deane was born circa 1690 at Donaghadee, County Down, Ireland.1 However, the family is thought to have originally come from Ayreshire, Scotland.2
Alexander and Grizelle Kennedy of Bennane became the parents of David Deane circa 1720 at in his father's home, Donaghadee, County Down, Ireland.3,2,4 Alexander Deane was a tidewaiter (a customhouse officer who watches the landing of goods from merchant vessels, in order to secure payment of duties) circa 1720 at Kinsale, County Cork.2,5
He married Grizelle Kennedy of Bennane, daughter of Hew Kennedy the 6th of Bennane and Anna Caldwell, in 1720 at Donaghadee, County Down. They were married in the house of the bride's father.. They went on to have three children together.6,1
