Charlotte Eliza Float

Charlotte Eliza Float was born on 22 December 1812 at Selsey, Sussex.^1,2

Charlotte Eliza Float married Henry Watson, son of William Watson and Martha Waterhouse, on Tuesday, 5 April 1836 at England. They were 23 and 33 respectively.^1,3

At the age of 25 Charlotte and her husband Henry emigrated from Gravesend, Kent, on 31 October 1838 on the "Katherine Stewart Forbes."⁴ Charlotte and her husband Henry arrived at Glenelg, South Australia, on 21 March 1839. the family had brought with them a pre-fabricated house that they had bought in London. Remarkably, the house is still standing and is the oldest ston ehouse in South Australia.⁴


Charlotte, as the mother of the bride, along with Henry may have attended the wedding of Edith and John Darby, a clerk, at the residence of George Wright on Saturday, 12 October 1878 at the Adelaide suburb of Woodville. Edith was 25 and her husband John was 24.. Others who may have attended include Jessie Nicholson as mother of the groom and Thomas Darby as father of the groom. Edith and John went on to have nine known children together.⁵ A photograph was taken circa 1885.

Charlotte died on 10 March 1892 at North Adelaide at age 79.²
