Daniel Nicholson was born circa 1786.1,3 Daniel lived in 1810 at Edinburgh. He was 'a consistent member of the church and congregation under the pastoral charge of the Rev. James Haldane.3'

Daniel Nicholson married Jane Wilkie, daughter of Alexander Wilkie, at St. Cuthbert's on Wednesday, 30 May 1810 at Edinburgh.4

Daniel and his wife Jane emigrated with their four children from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, on 5 June 1840 on the 'Martin Luther.4,5' After a voyage of three and a half months Daniel and his wife Jane arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia, on 20 September 1840. Also on board was a Mrs Darby - this may well have been the wife of Samuel or William Darby, brothers of Thomas Darby who later married the Nicholson's youngest daughter Jessie. The Nicholsons also saw fit to arrive with 16 casks bottled ale, 9 cases sundries and 1 of cask cider.4,5,6
Daniel Nicholson was a wine and spirit merchant in April 1843.3

He was a member of the congregation of the Baptist church in Hindley Street.3 Daniel and Jane (and presumably his spouse Jane) lived in August 1843 at Broughton Cottage, in Adelaide. Their house was located at the back of the Congregational Chapel, Freeman Street.3

Daniel died on 1 August 1843 at Adelaide of a heart attack.7 He was buried on 2 August 1843.3
