Daniel LeClerc Nicholson was born on 29 June 1893 at Cork Street, in Winton, Queensland.2 He was the son of Daniel Malcolm McBean Nicholson and Catherine Ann O'Reilly.1 Daniel LeClerc Nicholson was also known as Dan.3 He was educated at in 1898 at Winton State Primary School, in Winton, Queensland.4

His mother died June 1902 at the age of 39. After their mother died, their father apparently didn't help raise the children; they were fostered or looked after by family and friends in the Winton and Kyuna district. There is some suggestion that their grandmother never acknowledged her grandchildren, yet according to the birth certificates she assisted with at least some of the births..5 He was a stockman in 1903 at Warnambool Downs station, in Winton, Queensland.6 He was a labourer in January 1918.7

He married Florence Annie Armstrong, daughter of Henry Augustus Armstrong and Mary Dorell, at the Methodist church on Tuesday, 15 January 1918 at Winton, Queensland. He was 24 and his wife Florence was 20..7 An annecdote is told about him: Donald and Daniel rounded up a dozen or so brumbies and sold them to a fellow in Cloncurry. That night the brothers let the brumbies out of the holding yard. The horses scattered and took off. Donald and Daniel rounded them up again and headed to Kyuna where they were sold to another buyer.8 Daniel LeClerc Nicholson was a farmer in 1925.4 Daniel lived in 1925 at Monto, Queensland.4 He owned a dairy farm and market garden on the banks of at Gulliver Creek in the Townsville suburb of Aitkenvale, Queensland. He imported cattle from Ireland and when they arrived on the wharf he headed them through the city to a paddock which was just behind the Mater Hospital. He also owned a large part of Pureno Park in 1934 at Aitkenvale, Queensland.6 He was a labourer in 1934.6 Daniel and Florence lived in 1934 at Monto, Queensland.6

Daniel's brother James began military service on Thursday, 22 May 1941 with the 2/9th battalion AIF (QX11838) at age 39.9 Daniel lived in 1947 at at Albany Street in the Townsville suburb of Pimlico, Queensland.4 He and Florence Annie Armstrong were divorced in 1947 on the grounds of desertion.4 Daniel LeClerc Nicholson was a stockman at between 1950 and 1960 at Pimlico station, in Cloncurry, Queensland.6 He was fencing between 1950 and 1960 at Clarke Hills, in Hughenden, Queensland.6 He was a station-hand in 1959.4 Daniel lived in 1959 at Cubbarroo Station, in Cloncurry, Queensland.4

Daniel died on 20 January 1974 at Charters Towers, Queensland, at age 80.1 He was buried on 21 January 1974 at Charters Towers Cemetery, in Charters Towers, Queensland.1
