John was born circa 1739.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Oaten and Elizabeth Ridge. John Oaten was baptised at St. Andrew and St. Mary on Friday, 19 February 1739/40 at Pitminster, Somerset.2
He married Mary Ruckley, at St. Andrew and St. Mary on Friday, 8 July 1763 at Pitminster, Somerset..3,2
John and Mary Ruckley became the parents of John Oaten in 1770 at Wilton, Somerset.2
John was perhaps the John Oaten who was a witness at the wedding of John Hill and his younger sister Jane Oaten at St. John the Baptist on Thursday, 6 August 1778 at Pilton, Somerset.4,5
He married Sarah Caller, on Tuesday, 18 June 1816 at Pitminster, Somerset..2
John died on 29 September 1826 at Pitminster, Somerset.2
