Thomas was born circa 1804 at Liverpool.1

He married Nancy Ann Cattral, at St. Philip's on Saturday, 13 October 1832 at Liverpool..2,3 In his adulthood Thomas made a living as a glass cutter.4,1

He was recorded as head of household in the 1841 census with Nancy Ann Cattral (which other records indicate is his spouse) at Regent Street, St. Lawrence, York. The 1841 census only recorded adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years; his approximate age was recorded as 36 years old (which indicates it wasn't rounded).5

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census with Nancy Ann Cattral as his spouse at 47 Gerard Street (?), Liverpool. He was recorded as being 47 years old. Also living in the house were his five children.1 Thomas lived in August 1856 at Liverpool.6

Thomas, as the father of the bride, along with Nancy may have attended the wedding of Elizabeth and Donald Nicholson, a book-keeper, in a Church of England ceremony at St. Philip's on Wednesday, 6 August 1856 at Liverpool. Elizabeth was 19 and her husband Donald was 22.. Others who may have attended include Jane Wetherell as mother of the groom and Donald Nicholson as father of the groom. Elizabeth and Donald went on to have at least five children together.7,8,6 Thomas lived in January 1859 at 50 Seel street, Liverpool.9 Thomas provided information on the death of his wife Nancy Ann Cattral, on 15 January 1859, at Liverpool Registration District.9

He was recorded as living with his daughter and her new family in the 1861 census at 241 Crown Street, West Derby, Liverpool. Unusually, his approximate age wasn't specified.10 Thomas Medhurst was a glass engraver.10

Thomas died in May 1862.11 His body was interred at Toxteth Park Cemetery on 22 May 1862 at Liverpool.2,11
