Malcolm was born on Tuesday, 12 June 1917 at the Newcastle suburb of Adamstown, New South Wales.1 He was the son of Hugh Henry Sutherland and Florence May Hemsley. Malcolm was on active duty during the second world war at England. He was a Flight Sergeant in the RAAF.2 He was decorated while serving in the military on 10 December 1943. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for 'skills and fortitude in operations against the enemy'.2 Malcolm was on active duty with the No.2 Operational Training Unit on 17 December 1945 at Mildura, Victoria.2
Malcolm died in 1964 at the Sydney suburb of Bankstown.3
