Samuel Oaten was born circa 1826.1 He was the son of William Oaten and Elizabeth Meacham.1 Samuel Oaten was baptised at St. Andrew and St. Mary on Sunday, 24 December 1826 at Pitminster, Somerset.1 He was a mason.1 Samuel was a soldier with the the 13th(?) Somerset Light Infantry in the Crimean War at an unknown date.2

Samuel Oaten married Eliza Gibbons on Thursday, 19 July 1860 at Pitminster, Somerset.1

Samuel died in 1898 at Western Australia.1
