James Kemp was born circa 1841 at Maidstone, Kent.1
James Kemp was listed as a lodger in the household of William Pellett and Rhonda Smithers in the 1871 census at West Street, Reigate, Surrey. They were listed as living with their niece and two lodgers.2 His occupation was recorded as being a bank clerk in the census.2
