She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings Christina, Donald, Mary, George and Williamina in the 1841 census at Kinauld, the Parish of Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland. She was recorded as being 8 years old.2 Merran MacKay was a general servant in March 1851.4
She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings Donald, Williamina, John, James and Hector in the 1851 census at Kinauld, the Parish of Dornoch, Sutherland. She was recorded as being 18 years old. Her nephew Duncan Ross was also recorded in the house.4
