Thomas Malcolm was born circa 1836 at Fifeshire.1 He was the son of John Malcolm and Isabella Mason.1

He was recorded as living with his parents and brothers John and George in the 1841 census at High Street, Inverkeithing, Fifeshire. He was recorded as being 5 years old.

He was recorded as living with his parents and younger siblings George, Cecilia, James and Esabella in the 1851 census at Gowkhall, Inverkeithing, Fifeshire. He was recorded as being 14 years old.2
