He was recorded as living with his parents and siblings Robina and Duncan in the 1841 census at Rosschall(?), the Parish of Creich, Sutherland, Scotland. He was recorded as being 10 years old.3
He was recorded as living with his parents, a lodger and siblings Mary, Robina and Duncan in the 1851 census at Lochinver, the parish of Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. He was recorded as being 18 years old.2 William Ross was a scholar.2
