Edmund Alfred Wesley was born circa 1846 at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.1 He was the son of William Wesley and Frances Hannah Wayte.1

He was recorded as living with his parents, two unmarried aunts, two servants and siblings William, John and Frances in the 1851 census at High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. He was recorded as being 5 years old.1 Edmund Alfred Wesley was a 'scholar at home', perhaps being educated by his aunt Mary.1

His mother died circa December 1860 at the approximate age of 39 years. After the death of their mother, William Wesley remained with his two eldest sons in London, whilst the three youngest children were sent home to Derbyshire with his wife's sister Emma..2

He was recorded as living with his father and brother William in the 1861 census at 31 Clayton Road, Lambeth, London. He was recorded as being 15 years old.3 Edmund Alfred Wesley was a bookseller.3
