Charles Nicholson was also known as Carl.
On Wednesday, 31 January 1894 the licence of the Como Hotel, in Como, Sutherland, New South Wales, was transferred from Charles Forwood to Charles Nicholson.1 Charles had his licence of Como, Sutherland, New South Wales, renewed on 5 September 1894.2
Charles was charged with keeping Como, Sutherland, New South Wales, open on Sunday 9th December and was fined £3, and was fined a further 10s for 'having permitted music in his hotel.3'
Charles Nicholson was charged with keeping his hotel his hotel open on Sunday 10th of March, but the charge was dismissed as he claimed he was 400 miles away with his sick wife and did not know the hotel manager (almost certainly John Dalgety Thomson) had done this until his return a few weeks later. The case was dismissed.4
On Friday, 19 July 1895 Charles was again charged when his hotel 'sold liquor to persons other than travellers and lodgers'. Again Charles had been away but the court was tiring of this excuse ruling that 'the continued absence of the licensee should be reported to the next Licensing Court, and pointed out that the agent should be made responsible in the absence of his employer.5' Charles Nicholson attempted to transfer the license of Como, Sutherland, New South Wales, to John Dalgety Thomson on 4 September 1895 but it was refused as "while managing the hotel the applicant Thomson had been twice convicted of selling liquor on Sunday."6 However, the licence had passed from Charlesto another man by 23 October 1895.7
He may have married Ivy (?), in 1903 at Sydney..8 Carl and Ivy attended a joint birthday party for family friends on Thursday, 14 February 1924 at The Ambassadors, in Sydney, hosted by Joe and Mary Hill.9
