James Chalmers was born on 15 October 1847 at Sydney.2 He was the son of John Chalmers and Jessie Brown.1 James Chalmers was baptised at a Presbyterian church on Sunday, 24 October 1847 at Sydney.2 He presumably lived with his parents at 35 Prince Street, in Sydney, in October 1859.3
James Chalmers married Caroline Jane Arkey in 1870.1
James died on 22 November 1890 at Edinburgh Arms Hotel 36 Sussex Street, in Sydney, at age 43. He died at home.4,5,1
