Henry Scope was born in 1797 at Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. Henry Scope was transported to Botany Bay, New South Wales, on the 'Tottenham' arriving 1818. He was granted his ticket of leave 25 August 1831.

Henry Scope married Phyllis Thompson in 1832 at New South Wales. Henry and his wife had seven children from 1838 to 1850. Donald (and his sister's husband Thomas) were brought out by Mr. H. Scope of Liverpool and were to be paid 2 pounds and 2 shillings a week, without board. There was an undertaker named Henry Scope in Liverpool; were Donald and Thomas employed to make coffins for him? Henry Scope later described himself as a builder but was insolvent a few short years later in March 1842.1,2 Henry Scope was advertising himself as an undertaker on 8 January 1840 at the Sydney suburb of Liverpool. 15 March 1842 became insolvent as a builder. 1845 became insolvent as a builder. Henry lived in 1845 at the Sydney suburb of Chippendale. He was a civil engineer in 1846. Henry lived in 1856 at the Sydney suburb of Surry Hills.

Henry died in 1866.
