Sarah Perry was born circa 1793 at Great Parndon, Essex.1 She was the daughter of George Perry and Sarah Jackson.2 Great Parndon is an ancient but small and isolated parish. It had a population of 300 in 1801, rising to 534 in 1891, and was a place of scattered farms and hamlets. The main crops were grass, cereals and vegetables.
Sarah Perry was baptised at St. Mary the Virgin on Sunday, 7 July 1793 at Great Parndon, Essex.3 The church of St. Mary the Virgin stands on an elevated site, with walls of flint rubble and brick for the transcepts. It dates from the 15th century.
She married Thomas Darby, son of Thomas Darby and Elizabeth Perry, in a Church of England ceremony at St. Mary the Virgin on Monday, 10 January 1820 at Manuden, Essex. It is likely that the witness Sarah Perry was her sister, and the witness William Darby was his brother..4
In Thomas Darby's will on 23 September 1847 Sarah Perry, Elizabeth Darby, Sarah Darby, William Darby, George Darby and Elizabeth Perry were named as heirs. Sarah, as his wife, was to receive one hundred pounds, all the household goods furniture and effects, as well as to receive the rents from his property at Manuden and Hatfield Heath in Essex, as well as the money arising from the sale of "my live and dead farming stock and crops horses cattle carts wagons and implements in husbandry". She was also named as the third executor/executrix of the will..2
Sarah Perry was recorded as the spouse of Thomas Darby in the 1851 census at Matching Tye, Essex.1
Thomas Darby's will was probated on 21 January 1853.2
She made a will. In it she stated was formerly of Brick House Farm, Matching. (an unknown value.)5
Sarah died on 23 April 1868.5 She was buried on 29 April 1868 at St. Mary the Virgin, Little Hallingbury, Essex.1
Sarah's will was probated circa May 1869. And her effects were valued at under £600.5
