Eliza Anne Lipson may have been born circa 1814 at England.1 She was likely born in 1819 at England.2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Lipson and Elizabeth Emma Fooks.1

Eliza emigrated from England on 20 March 1836 on the Cygnet with her parents and siblings. The Cygnet stoped in Rio de Janeiro for cuddy stores.1,4 Eliza arrived at South Australia on 11 September 1836 with her parents and siblings. The family spent 4 months on Kangaroo Island before moving to Port Adelaide on 6th January 1837.1,4


Eliza Anne Lipson married John Allan on Tuesday, 25 February 1840.5 Eliza Anne Lipson and John Allan moved to Great Western, Victoria, in 1842.3

In early 1842 they took up 137,000 acres in the Great Western district and named it Allenvale after John's father's farm in Tasmania. However, they later lost part of their farm in a land dispute.3

Eliza died on 15 March 1845 at Victoria giving birth to her daughter Eliza.5 Her body was interred at Lexington Station at Moyston, Victoria.3

A memorial was erected to her in Great Western, Victoria, to commerate her role in the area's history.6
