Laurence was born at Sutton, Bedfordshire.2 He was baptised at St. Mary on Tuesday, 28 November 1820 at Lower Gravenhurst, Bedfordshire.1 He was the son of William Coxall and Frances (?)1

Laurence and Amelia Darby attended the wedding of Joseph William Peck and his wife's sister Ann Darby in a Church of England ceremony at St. Leonard's on Monday, 1 April 1839 at Shoreditch, London. They also signed the marriage certificate as witnesses. They married seventeen days before they set sail for South Australia. Joseph and Ann went on to have five children together.3,1 Laurence lived in September 1840 at Sutton Coldfield, Bedfordshire.1 He was a farmer in September 1840.1

He married Amelia Darby, daughter of George Darby and Elizabeth Aylott, at St. Leonard's on Friday, 18 September 1840 at Shoreditch, London. He was 19 and his wife Amelia was 27..1

He was recorded as living with his parents and eight siblings in the 1841 census at Standalone Farm, Sutton Coldfield, Bedfordshire.4

Laurence and Amelia Darby attended the wedding of William Skerman and his wife's sister Mary Ann Darby in a Church of England ceremony at St. Pancras New Church on Wednesday, 26 October 1842 at St. Pancras, London. They also signed the marriage certificate as witnesses. This was the third marriage for William. Others who may have attended the wedding include George Darby as father of the bride.5,6,7

Laurence and his wife Amelia emigrated from England in 1845.8,9 Laurence and his wife Amelia arrived at Canada circa 1846.8,1


He was listed in the 1851 census at Wolfe Island, Ontario.10 Laurence John Coxall was a farmer.10

Laurence died on 14 March 1857 at Wolfe Island, Ontario, at age 36.2 An obituary was published a week after his death, stating that he drove his horse into a hole in the ice on a ride home in the evening within 'a gunshot of his own door' (the hole being left there after two sleighs had broken the ice earlier that day). His body was recovered the next day.11
