Emily Jane Finer

Emily Jane Finer was born circa June 1854 at Hertford.¹ She was the daughter of George Finer and Elizabeth Darby.¹ The city of Hertford dates back to at least 673, and was an important market town surrounded by agricultural land. From the late 16th century, it had access to the London corn markets via the Lea river.



She was recorded as living with her parents, a sevant and her sisters Elizabeth, Rosa, Alice and Kate in the 1861 census at 8 Victoria Road, Shoreditch, London. She was recorded as being 6 years old.²

Emily Jane Finer married John Leverton circa June 1877 at Hackney, London.³

Emily Jane Finer was recorded as the spouse of John Leverton in the 1881 census at 127 Pownall Road, Shoreditch, London. She was recorded as being Also sharing the house with her and husband was her son John..⁴

Emily Jane Finer was recorded as the spouse of John Leverton in the 1891 census at Shoreditch, London.⁵

Emily Jane Finer was recorded as the spouse of John Leverton in the 1901 census at 84 Albert Road, Hackney, London. She was recorded as being 46 years old, and she was living with her husband and her son. Her sister Kate was also visiting..⁶

Emily Jane Finer was recorded as the spouse of John Leverton in the 1911 census at 'Cambourne' Falmouth Avenue, Chingford, Walthamstow, Essex. She was recorded as being 56 years old.. She lived with her sisters Rosa and Kate and her neice Alice. Another sister lived in a workhouse.⁷
