George Finer was listed as a servant in the household of Robert Cocks and Harriett (?) in the 1851 census at Fore street, Hertford. He was recorded as being 26 years old.6 His occupation was recorded as being a linen draper's assistant in the census.6

George Finer married Elizabeth Darby, daughter of George Darby and Sarah Boden, at Cowbridge Chapel on Monday, 29 March 1852 at Hertford.1,7

George Darby's will was probated on 20 April 1853.5

He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Elizabeth Darby as his spouse at 8 Victoria Road, Shoreditch, London. His age was recorded as 37 years old. Also living in the household were five of his young daughters and a servant.3 His occupation was recorded as being a warehouseman in the census.3

He was recorded as head of household in the 1881 census with Elizabeth Darby as his spouse and children living at 6 Deddington Terrace Beaumont Road, Leyton, Essex. He was recorded as being 56 years old.8,9 His occupation was recorded as being a commercial traveller in oil cloth (unemployed) in the census.10

He was recorded as head of household in the 1891 census with Elizabeth Darby as his spouse and children living at 160 Elderfield Road, Hackney, London.11
