Reginald John Darby was born on 7 May 1884 at Yatala, South Australia.1 He was the son of John Darby and Edith Watson.1

Tragedy struck the Darby family when John and Edith's son Kenny Darby, not quite two years of age, was shot dead by his seventeen year old brother Eustace on 23 February 1896. There was an inquest, and a verdict brought down of accidental death with no blame being attached to anyone.2,3 Reginald John Darby was secretary and treasurer of the Port Adelaide Temperance Brass Band in August 1909.4 He was was perhaps proprietor of the 'Royal Pictures' cinema in March 1911 at Port Road, in Hindmarsh, South Australia.5

Reginald died on 13 June 1912 at at Caversham in the Adelaide suburb of Woodville at age 28.6 His body was interred at Cheltenham Cemetery on 14 June 1912 at Cheltenham, South Australia.7,8 He was unmarried.9
