William James Long was born on 11 May 1862 at Peach Belt, in Gawler, South Australia.1 He was the son of William Long.2 William lived in September 1890 at Minlacowie, South Australia.3
He married Jessie Darby, daughter of Thomas Darby and Jessie Nicholson, in a baptist ceremony conducted by John Nancarrow at the Baptist Church on Wednesday, 24 September 1890 at Minlacowie, South Australia. He was 28 and his wife Jessie was 24.. Others who may have attended the wedding include Jessie Nicholson as mother of the bride andThomas Darby as father of the bride. Brothers and sisters who may have attended include Edward Baker Darby, Louisa Margaret Darby, John Darby, Alice Darby, James Alexander Darby and Emily Mary Darby. William and Jessie went on to have two known children together.2,4
William died on 25 November 1911 at age 49.1
