Ralph Wootton1

Ralph Wootton was born circa 1606 at Otterford, Somerset.2,1 He may have been born circa 1608 at Upottery, Devon.2 As of 1608, Ralph Wootton was also known as Ralph Oton.2 As of 1608, Ralph Wootton was also known as Ralph Awton.2 As of 1608, Ralph Wootton was also known as Rhalph Oaten.2 As of 1608, Ralph Wootton was also known as Rafe Otten.2 As of 1608, Ralph Wootton was also known as Ralph Oatton.2 Ralph Wootton was also known as Ralph Oaten At this date, the name was listed as Wootton in the parish records and when one takes into account the fact that many surnames were spelt and perhaps pronounced slightly differently during the early years of recording data, one is not too worried about the change of spelling. Another factor in the United Kingdom is the area accents which would have sounded quite strange to people who were more used to the dialect of a different area of the country.1 It is not recorded just what occupation Ralph Wootton was engaged in but it is noted that he lived to about 84 years of age. He would therefore have had good genes or he journeyed unscathed by childhood illnesses and adult disabilities.1
Ralph Wootton married Mary Tucker, daughter of Johannes Tucker and Thomasina Stevens, on Sunday, 8 February 1632 at Buckland St Mary, Somerset.1
Ralph and Mary Tucker became the parents of Michael Wootton circa 1632.2,1
His wife Mary died 12 March 1638 at the approximate age of 39, leaving him a widower.
Ralph Wootton married Agnes Spiller on Friday, 6 May 1639 at Otterford, Somerset.2,1 Ralph and his first wife had three children before Mary died. His second marriage took place relatively quickly after the death of Mary and he and Agnes went onto raise at least seven more children.1
Ralph died on 22 February 1690 at Otterford, Somerset.1
