Joseph Hill was born on 26 August 1829.1 He was the son of Hugh Hill and Mary (?)1 Joseph Hill was baptised at Sheffield Parish Church in Church Street on Sunday, 20 September 1829 at Sheffield.1 He was a silversmith in 1852 at Sheffield.2
Joseph Hill married Ellen Turner, daughter of George Turner, at St. Philips Church on Sunday, 10 October 1852 at Shalesmoor, Sheffield. They were 23 and 20 respectively.2 Joseph Hill was a german silver spoon maker in April 1861.3
He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Ellen Turner as his spouse at 54 Well Meadow Street, Sheffield. He was 31 years old. His age was recorded as being 31 years old, and he also shared a house with his two young sons.3 Joseph Hill was a silversmith in April 1871.4
He was recorded as head of household in the 1871 census with Ellen Turner as his spouse and children living at 6 Barraets Fold, Sheffield. He was 41 years old. Also in the house were his two sons.4
