John was born circa 1800 at London.2 He was Secretary to the British Minister circa 1825 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.2
He married Frances Mary Lecosne, in 1828.2,3 John Peter Hobkirk was a merchant in 1830.4
John Peter Hobkirk and Frances Mary Lecosne emigrated in 1852 with their children. John Peter Hobkirk and Frances Mary Lecosne arrived circa 1853 at Tasmania.
John died on 24 August 1882 at Launceston, Tasmania.2
