Lydia was born on Wednesday, 14 June 1871 at the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.2 She was the daughter of Peter Carroll and Margaret Dolan. As of circa 1872, Lydia Mary Carroll was also known as Lilley Carroll.3 Lydia Mary Carroll was also known as Lillian.4 She presumably lived with her parents at at Perry Street in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood on 6 March 1872. Their house was a brick house.5 She presumably lived with her parents at Collingwood on 3 January 1873.6 She presumably lived with her parents at at 36 Perry Street in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood on 28 January 1874.7,8 She presumably lived with her parents at at 38 Perry Street in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood on 12 January 1876.9,10 She presumably lived with her parents at at Sackville Street in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood on 10 October 1883.11 She presumably lived with her parents at at 18 Sackville Street in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood in 1885.12
She married John James Thompson, at St. Francis' on Wednesday, 8 January 1896 at Melbourne. She was 24 and her husband John was 26..13,14 Lydia and John lived at at Waterloo Road in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood.15
John James Thompson and Lydia Mary Carroll are said to have looked after her mother Margaret after she suffered a stroke.15
Her father died 29 August 1902 at the age of 68. Lydia was aged 31 when this happened.
Lydia died on 30 December 1947 at Melbourne at age 76.16
