William was born in 1874 at Hartley Vale, in the District of Lithgow, New South Wales.1 He was the son of Donald Henry Nicholson and Anne Smyth. He lived with his parents at Parkes, New South Wales, in February 1876.2 He lived with his parents at Goodrich, New South Wales, in April 1878.3 William Donald Nicholson was a fireman in March 1900.4
He married Lena Libbesson, an eighteen year old, daughter of John Libbesson and Sarah Ann Cambridge, on Wednesday, 28 March 1900 at the Sydney suburb of Balmain..5,6 William Donald Nicholson was a harbourmaster in March 1927.4 William lived in March 1927 at Smalls Bay, New South Wales.4 He was a 'skipper of the Balmain Ferries' in June 1953.7,4
William died on 28 June 1953 at at 10 Ballast Point Road in the Sydney suburb of Balmain.8,9 His body was interred at Waverley Cemetery at the Sydney suburb of Bronte.4
