Hector was born on Thursday, 21 June 1906 at Cobar, New South Wales. He was a twin with Jessie.1 He was the son of Hector Joseph Sutherland and Henrietta Jane Murphy.
Hector Norman Sutherland married Edna Thora Dixon in 1959 at the Newcastle suburb of Hamilton, New South Wales.2
Hector died on 6 March 1990 at at 175 Lawson Street in the Newcastle suburb of Hamilton, New South Wales, at age 83.3 He was buried on 8 March 1990 at Newcastle Crematorium, in Newcastle, New South Wales.3
