Charles was born in 1908 at Nymagee, New South Wales. He was the son of William Henry Hosnell Nicholson and Mary Nolan McLennan. As of 1910, Charles William Nicholson was also known as Pat.1 He presumably lived with his parents at Glenwood Station, in Nymagee, New South Wales, circa 1915.1
Charles William Nicholson married Jean Margaret Mackay in 1937 at Sydney.2 Charles lived at Wongawood Station, in Mount Hope, New South Wales. He was there for many years.1 The Nicholson's were a hard-working family but like most people of their generation enjoyed a simple social life with a love of sports; especially tennis, cricket and anything to do with horses. Tennis and cricket were played at Glenwood and dances held in the woolshed and the "Big Room" at night.1
