John was born circa 1841 at Bolton, Lancashire.1 He was the son of James Jameson and Nancy Calderbank.1
He was recorded as living with his parents and siblings Betsy, Fanny, Mary, Anne and James in the 1851 census at Barn Street, Bolton, Lancashire. He was recorded as being 10 years old.2 John Jameson was a scholar in March 1851.2
He was recorded as living with his parents, two of his sister's children and his siblings Betsy, Mary, Anne and James in the 1861 census at 56 Asburner Street, Bolton, Lancashire. He was recorded as being 20 years old.1 John Jameson was a printer-compositor in April 1861.1 John lived in May 1865 at Bolton, Lancashire.3
He married Lizzie Miller, daughter of Robert T. Miller and Mary Fairclough, Lizzie and John went on to have four children together at Parish church on Monday, 8 May 1865 at Leyland, Manchester. Eliza's father was a cotton mill manager.. Others who may have attended the wedding include Martha Alice Miller, Emma Miller, Ann Jane Miller, Frederick Horrocks Miller and Thomas Henry Miller.4,5,6
He was recorded as head of household in the 1871 census with Lizzie Miller as his spouse at 25 Arkwright Street, Bolton, Lancashire. He was recorded as being 30 years old. Also recorded as living in the house were three boys between 12 and 17 with the surname 'Gooden', and it is stated that they were sons. The relationship with these boys isn't clear; their parents were still alive, just visitors in a house in Leicestershire on census night.7 John (and presumably his spouse Eliza) lived in April 1874 at Little Bolton, Lancashire.8 John Jameson was an ironfounder in April 1874.8 He was an umbrella manufacturer in December 1877.9
He was recorded as head of household in the 1881 census with Lizzie Miller as his spouse and children living at Bolton, Lancashire. He was recorded as being 40 years old.10 John Jameson was an umbrella manufacturer employing 4 hands in April 1881.10
John died on 26 January 1885 at Bolton, Lancashire.11
John's will was probated on 20 February 1885. It had a value of £1,742 8s. 11d. with Eliza being the sole executrix and beneficiary..11
